Youngcare's Moving Home Grants
Support you to move back home, or to make a new one
The Moving Home Grants provide essential funding to assist people in moving from inappropriate housing, such as aged care, rehabilitation or hospital, into somewhere more appropriate.
This may be back home or to Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA).
Funding is available for people with extreme functional impairment caused by a physical disability.
This can be used for essential disability equipment, home modifications, and basic household items such as whitegoods and essential furniture.
Please keep in mind we have limited funds, so we are unable to fund ‘top of the range’ items.
Moving Home Grants are now open
Panel meetings will be then held monthly on the first Thursday of each month, with completed applications required 2 days before.
Please call or email Youngcare Connect if you would like to discuss potential applications and to request an application form.
FAQs
These are some questions we are regularly called or emailed about the Smartygrants Application process. If your question is not answered here, please contact us.
I (or the person I am applying for) am not moving homes, can I still apply?
No. The MHG is ONLY for people who are moving homes. If you are not moving, you might be eligible for the At Home Care Grant.
I (or the person I am applying for) have an intellectual disability or a mental health illness, but not a physical disability, can I still apply?
No. The Grants are for people with extreme functional impairment caused by a physical disability. There may be comorbid conditions also.
Can people under 16, or over 65 apply?
No. The funding given to Youngcare for these Grants is specifically for people aged between 16 and 65.
What supporting evidence do I need to provide?
The more documentation you include in your application the better. At minimum, Youngcare requires an assessment (by an allied health professional), and quotes for all items being applied for.
How do I get quotes?
You can contact the store and ask them to email you a quote for the items. Or you can shop online and “add to cart” the items and then screenshot the cart. Make sure to include delivery.
Who decides on the successful applicants?
A panel comprising Youngcare staff, allied health and disability sector professionals and donor representatives determine how the grants will be awarded based on the selection criteria and the information provided in your application. No applicants are identified in the panel review.
When are the Grants open?
The Grants are open year-round (except for a month over Christmas) or until the funds run out. Panel Meetings are held every 4 weeks or so. Any applications that come in are presented at the next upcoming Panel Meeting.
When will we be notified and how?
Youngcare will notify you by email or phone if your application has been successful or unsuccessful after the panel meeting. Formal notification will occur within 1 week of the Panel Meeting.
If successful how soon can payments be made?
Youngcare cannot make emergency or urgent payments – so please apply well in advance. Payment will be made within 10 business days of receiving the returned signed Service Agreement and an Invoice accurately made out to Youngcare Ltd.
