New York Diaries — Pt. 1
More than 15,000km flown. 22 hours in transit. A group of almost 40 people (and their luggage). Three cameramen. Six competition winners. One race wheelchair.
And so it began – our adventure to one of the greatest cities in the world, for one of the world’s most iconic marathons.
Months of training for our five extraordinary runners have led to this point, including with Youngcare resident, Tim Martin in his very cool purpose-built race chair. Truly, it’s a bit surreal that we’re finally here, surrounded by the towering skyscrapers, the yellow taxicabs and the street stalls touting pretzels and hotdogs. The atmosphere on the streets is incredible – particularly given it’s also Halloween weekend, so every second person is dressed in costume.
By the time you read this, the marathon will be done and dusted and we’ll be celebrating the boys’ success getting over that 42km line. We’re excited to keep you filled in on all the details as NOVA’s Ash, Kip and Luttsy, together with Channel Nine’s Andrew Lofthouse and fearless trainer Ricky Dumigan join together with Tim to compete in the 2015 TCS NYC Marathon, and the week of fun that follows!
