As Unni’s MS symptoms worsened she was forced to move out of her family home and into an aged care facility. She was only 49 years old. Unni is now 56 years old and has been in aged care for seven long years.
Thanks to our generous supporters, Youngcare have been there for Unni throughout her long journey finding an appropriate place to call home. After many delays and difficulties, Unni found a suitable Specialist Disability Accommodation close to her son, daughter in-law and beloved grandchildren in New South Wales. Unfortunately, after so many years in institutional living, the cost to set up a new home and move interstate, from Tasmania, appeared to be out of reach for Unni. That is where supporters like you stepped up and changed Unni’s life!
Thankfully, with your support, Unni was given a Home Support Grant to assist with moving expenses, furniture, homewares, and linen. You may not be aware, but the NDIS will not fund certain moving expenses and vital items to make a house a home. So, without the generous supporters who help to fund the Home Support Grants, Unni’s move into her forever home would not have been possible.
Youngcare received the following email the week Unni moved into her new home – “Everything has gone wonderfully, and the family are so happy to have me close. The unit I have moved into is fabulous. Thank you so much for all your help and to Youngcare for helping my dream come true. I will be eternally grateful.”
