International Womens Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8th, and this year’s theme is embracing equity across genders. The official International Women’s Day website says that equity acknowledges that people start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action.
Here’s what Youngcare Ambassador Lisa Cox had to say about International Womens Day:
“IWD is a celebration of how far we have come, but also a chance for us to recognise how far we have to go,” Lisa said.
“In particular, amplifying the voices of marginalised women from the disability community and others.
“Equity recognises that each individual needs completely different things to succeed… The world needs to embrace equity because it is good for humanity and good for business.”
Youngcare At Home Care Grant recipient Gill said that when we embrace equity, we’re embracing equality. Not just for women, but for everyone.
“International Womens Day reminds us of the rights of women,” Gill said.
“It also makes you stop and reflect on how far we’ve come, and therefore we know if we keep striving for change, it can be achieved.”
Youngcare SDA resident and grant recipient, Mikaela Norris, stressed the importance of days like International Women’s Day.
“It gives everyone a chance to be heard and to advocate for their rights,” Mikaela said.
“Equity is needed now more than ever. With all the hate and discrimination, the world will be a much better place when every individual is seen as an equal.
“As a society, we need to embrace each other rather than push each other away because of our differences.”
Youngcare wishes everyone a happy International Womens Day! We encourage everyone to #EmbraceEquity.
