Media Release: Youngcare Partners With Brisbane Global Rugby Tens

YOUNGCARE CONTINUES AS OFFICIAL CHARTITY OF BRISBANE GLOBAL RUGBY TENS

Young people with high needs who are forced into aged care or left at home with limited support will be the beneficiaries of the continued charitable partnership between Youngcare and the Brisbane Global Rugby Tens.

A not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping young Australians with high-care needs live the young lives they deserve, Youngcare has worked tirelessly for over a decade to tackle a momentous and national issue.

Last year the Brisbane Global Tens raised nearly $13,000 for Youngcare via the 50/50 promotion held at Suncorp Stadium during the tournament.

“The reality is, there are over 12,000 young people with high care needs living in institutionalised housing, like aged care,” Youngcare CEO Anthony Ryan said.
“It’s not good enough and it’s only with the support of the community that we can make a difference to their lives.

Our passion is to give these young Australians choice in where they live, who they live with and how they live their lives. It’s humbling that Brisbane Global Rugby Tens share this passion and we are thrilled to be the charity partner for the second year.

Last year, the weekend made $12,853 for young people with high care needs – these funds are vital to helping build the foundations of a new accessible home.” Mr Ryan said.

As the official charity of Brisbane Global Rugby Tens, Youngcare will once again be the beneficiary of a 50/50 fundraiser held during the Friday February 9 and Saturday February 10 day-night tournament at Suncorp Stadium.

Youngcare staff and volunteers will be selling tickets for the 50/50 draw across both days of the event, and at associated events such as the official Gala Dinner.  The value of purchased tickets accumulates over the selling period, with spectators able to follow the tally on the big screen. A draw will be held at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with the winner receiving half of the total cash from ticket sales.  The remaining 50 per cent will be donated to Youngcare.

Last year’s draw winner Anthony Shaw said he was shocked when he learned he’d won.

“I purchase a 50/50 every time I go to Suncorp,” Mr Shaw said. “I don’t do it to win I just like the idea of it and like seeing someone actually win and charity giving something back to an unsuspecting fan. It’s a great program and I love it.”

Mr Shaw said the tournament itself had been a great experience.

“It was a day for all the boys to have some fun and watch some footy, have a couple beers. My mate Karl bought all the tickets so we got a crew together in five mins.”

Tournament chief executive Rachael Carroll said she was delighted the successful relationship with Youngcare would continue.

“We’re delighted to re-appoint Youngcare as the official charitable partner of the Brisbane Global Rugby Tens,” Duco Australia Rachael Carroll said.

“Youngcare’s innovative thinking when it comes to young people with high care needs is incredibly impressive.

“They have an incredible passion for their work.”

“Youngcare also has extremely strong connections to the rugby community, and that was important to us too. We know that the rugby people who attend the Brisbane Global Rugby Tens will once again support this great cause.”
