Welcome to 2018! With your support this year, and into the future, we are continuing to lead much needed change in the disability housing sector. To help us on our journey, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to our new Board Chair, Paul McLean and Directors, John Tyquin (Joint Managing Director of GOA Billboards), Jamie Shine (National Special Counsel – Major Claims, Shine Lawyers), Matthew Kayrooz (Head of Accident and Trauma Insurance – Suncorp).
In 2017, your support enabled us to provide vital grants to 144 young Australians to help them exit or avoid aged care and open our fourth High Care Housing solution at Albany Creek. I am so excited to continue this trend, along with the NDIS roll out in 2018.
It was an absolute privilege to be invited to provide our insights at the NDIA conference about the roll out of the NDIS. The two key drivers of the NDIS are about providing choice and control to all within the disability sector and this is something we fully support.
The year for me began with donning the snow boots and heading to the negative 30 degree temperatures of the Yukon. Myself and a team of five people braved the wintery conditions to raise vital funds for young people with high care needs. It was an isolating experience, one that reflects the lack of choice and independence that young people with high care needs experience every day.
Check out our ‘What’s coming up’ section to see all of the other ways that you can get involved! Whatever you choose, we hope that you’ll join us as we continue to fight for freedom of choice for young people with high care needs.
Cheers,
Anthony Ryan
Chief Executive Officer
